Divemaster OVERVIEW

As a divemaster, you'll take the reins by supervising SCUBA diving activities, being responsible for the safety and comfort of fellow divers under your care.

Duration

2 weeks to 1 month depending on the option you choose.

Option 1: 2 weeks full-time
Option 2: Internship with flexible dates

Prerequisites

To start PADI Divemaster training you must meet the following criteria:

Be a PADI Rescue diver (or equivalent).
Be at least 18 years old.
Have at least 40 logged dives.
Have completed EFR or First aid training within 24 months.
Have an AS2299 Instructor Dive Medical within 12 months.
At completion of the course, have at least 60 logged dives with night dive, deep dive and UW navigation.

Divemaster vs Master Diver

PADI Divemaster Program:

Focus: Primarily designed for individuals aspiring to become professional dive leaders.
Skills: Emphasizes leadership skills, assisting instructors, and guiding certified divers.
Prerequisites: Requires Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver certifications, along with Emergency First Response training.
Role: Divemasters can lead dives, assist in training, and work in the diving industry as professionals.

PADI Master Scuba Diver Program:

Focus: Geared towards experienced recreational divers seeking advanced training and specialties.
Skills: Offers a variety of specialized training options, allowing divers to choose areas of interest such as wreck diving, deep diving, or underwater photography.
Prerequisites: Requires Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and five PADI specialty certifications.
Recognition: Achieving the Master Scuba Diver rating showcases a diver's expertise and commitment to mastering various diving skills and environments.

Melanie is a great instructor , friendly, patient and accomodating with regard to a combination of pool, lake and ocean dives during courses if needed. It was the first time also that I had done a Padi certification with a private instructor in a small group which was also a positive experience. I live in Atherton and I was able to complete my entire rescue diver course at lake eacham which was so convenient compared to going down to cairns a d then heading out to the reef and back! I would recommend anyone interested in doing any dive courses to contact Melanie to arrange to do their PADI certification through Octopus Dive.

Very friendly and welcoming. I had a great time on my first freshwater dive. It feels like a professional operation, which is something you can miss with bigger places which are often run day to day by young divemasters trying to clock up hours. I would recommend Octupus Dive if you are keen to try something different or complete your next PADI course.

I flew from new Zealand to cairns to get tickets for my new line of work and was absolutely wrapped with how efficient and skilled mel was at getting me through. We had the best time ever with Octupus dive! The whole day was amazing. Mel picked us up in the morning for our scuba diving session in the lake. After the dives we had hot coffee and ginger cookies, we stopped at Gallos to buy some chocolates and on the way back we tried to spot platypus in Yungaburra! It felt like we were on a road trip! I totally recommend it, canâ€™t wait to go back!

I arrived in Far North Queensland with a relatively narrow window for scuba diving and Mel made it work perfectly. She is very flexible and we did a refresher course in her pool (although she is happy to come to your pool if it suits, or take you to a lake). We then went for a lovely day of diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Mel sorted all the logistics and everything for me. Sheâ€™s a wonderful teacher and great company. If I ever come back to Queensland Iâ€™d love to dive with her again.
